Become an Aquatic Professional

An aquatic professional is an individual who takes part and works in supervising swimming and teaching water safety. To become an aquatic professional, certification is required from a licensed training provider. Examples of aquatics professionals:

  • A lifeguard who ensures the safety of swimmers in and out of the water. Lifeguards are trained to perform CPR, first aid, and respond to other aquatics-related emergencies.
  • A water safety instructor who conducts swimming lessons and follows best practices for drowning prevention in the aquatic environment.

Water SMART Broward offers a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Scholarship for Broward County youth.
