An aquatic professional is an individual who takes part and works in supervising swimming and teaching water safety. To become an aquatic professional, certification is required from a licensed training provider. Examples of aquatics professionals:
- A lifeguard who ensures the safety of swimmers in and out of the water. Lifeguards are trained to perform CPR, first aid, and respond to other aquatics-related emergencies.
- A water safety instructor who conducts swimming lessons and follows best practices for drowning prevention in the aquatic environment.
Water SMART Broward offers a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Scholarship for Broward County youth.
